In one of my first posts, I said that blogs are an escape from reality. They allow a person to experience love, passion, adventure, exhilaration all within their mind and outside of the world.
Now, imagine you have anxiety or depression. These mental illnesses are often confusing, neglected and sometimes, it seems, incurable.
But what if we put the two together? If a words on a page allows us to exhilarate our brain, why CAN’T we cure depression? Why haven’t we used books to allow men and women to expand their thoughts in a world that isn’t theirs, but can be easily accessed just through words?
Well, believe it or not, we can and have! It’s called bibliotherapy. Webster Dictionary’s definition of bibliotherapy goes like this: the use of reading materials for help in solving personal problems or for psychiatric therapy. ALSO, it’s said that it was first discovered in 1919! That’s nearly 100 years!
There are more than several bibliotherapists around the world, too. Showing people books they should read to help with their condition, or just helping a person find a good book suited for their personality is a real job!
